FuzzyBudgie is a character I have created for a pet project video game. So far I have modelled, unwrapped, textured, normal map baked, rigged and skinned him, and I plan to make some animations for him very soon so check back here for some videos.

Here is a video of the rig I have worked on for Fuzzy. It consists of a full IK/FK conversion system which is all colour-coded, and you can see through the wonderful use of constraints, the bones can be visible when blending between IK and FK! There’s also driver/driven keys, the IK/FK/Sticky controls hide/unhide depending on what is set to make it not look overly complex for the animator, eyes/head tracking, lip-sync controls, dynamic wing and tail feather follow-through.

And to top it off, if the framerate stutters too much with the skinning, there’s a simplified mesh proxy to speed things up! There’s also settings to change the colours of the rig controls and you can scale the rig up and down for bigger characters as well.

Two planned features I have is a complete ragdoll system using dynamics and a way to modify bone lengths for different shaped characters. My goal is to port him to the crystalspace 3D engine so I can start development for a 3D platformer/flying/action/adventure game, a good learning experience on how to develop for games :) so the rig needs to be flexible enough for more characters.
